Element Medicine Disposal System

Element Medicine Disposal System (MDS) is designed to provide safe disposal of prescription medications to seniors and disabled individuals, who are unable to utilize the Rx Drug Drop Boxes located in our community. The Element MDS  product offers and easy, effective and low cost way to dispose of unused medications and meets all applicable environmental regulations for medication disposal. 

Element MDS is ideal for medical facilities such as:
  • Hospice
  • Nursing Facilities
  • Assisted Living Homes
  • Hospitals
  • Urgent Care Facilities
  • Health Clinics

Follow the six easy steps to dispose of prescription medications 
using the Element Medicine Disposal System

STEP ONE

Empty medication from its original packaging into the container (do not exceed line A printed on the container’s label)

STEP TWO

Open MDS Powder Packet and pour powder into the container

STEP THREE

Fill the container with water up to line B printed on the container’s label (For best results fill w/ water 1” above medicine level. Do not exceed line B)

STEP FOUR

Tighten lid on the container until it locks (do not try to reopen)

STEP FIVE

Shake container vigorously for at
least 30 seconds

STEP SIX

Place the container in a standard trash receptacle immediately as the gelling process can take up to 24 hrs.

Element Medicine Disposal System containers are provided by Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition in partnership with theUpper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission (UVLSRPC) and Southern Windsor/Windham Counties Solid Waste Management. The containers will be distributed by several local organizations. Funding is provided by  UVLSRPC's  USDA Connecticut River Valley Solid Waste Management Project. This project as  a prevention strategy to address youth access to prescription drugs and the environmental impact of improper disposal.

The Prescription (Rx) drug drop boxes have been provided by the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition [BAPC] and theGreater Falls Prevention Coalition [GFPC] as a prevention strategy to address concerns of prescription drug misuse in Windham County, Vermont.
